This battle which Champlain and the
Algonquin's won, is believed to be the catalyst that turned one
Haudenosaunee (Iroquoian) Nation against all others, including
the French. The word terror and Iroquois became synonymous, as
they wrought havoc on the French and any other hapless tribes,
until they themselves were defeated and driven out by the
Mississauga (Ojibwa) in the late 1680's.
