Black Tern ... ( Chlidonias niger ) may be sighted at the mouth of the Rouge at Lake Ontario.

They nest in marshy areas, and when its nesting area is invaded by people or predators, they screech loudly. It is our only black-bodied tern, and in it's breeding plumage, it has a black head and underparts, with the wings, back and tail dark grey. They fly with an erratic night-hawk-like flight. They feed mostly on insects and occasionally small fish.
