The Mourning Dove is a member of the Pigeon Family. They prefer open woods and groves. They are often seen in the Finch Meander Site. They eat fruit, seeds and grain. In flight their pointed tails display white spots as they fly away. Their cooing sound seems sad. They may visit your bird feeder in winter, but I suggest leaving some seeds on the ground in a protected area ... Morning Dove Clip

The Belted Kingfisher may be seen in the Rouge River, flying along the waters edge. It has a ragged crest on its head. Kingfishers feed on minnows, frogs, and large aquatic insects. It will sit on a perch or hover over the water and then dive in; beak first; to capture its food. It always swallows it's food head first after flipping it in the air to turn it around.
