The Baltimore Oriole is now called the Northern Oriole, as is
the Bullock's Oriole. These two Northern Orioles are very similar
in appearance because of cross breeding. The Bullock's Oriole does not appear
in Eastern Canada. The Baltimore Oriole is found in Eastern Canada, and winters in the Tropics. The male Baltimore Oriole has black cheeks while the male Bullock's Oriole has orange cheeks. The white area on
the Baltimore Oriole wing is much smaller. The Baltimore's song is a hew-li,
while the Bullock's is a double noted skip. It is found in the Rouge
in open woods, and shade trees. They live on seeds, and have showed up at bird feeders. They are 6" to 7" in length, and tend to stay high in trees. They are difficult to photograph, because you may only get a fleeting look at one. I still have not gotton a good image of this beautiful bird.
