You must look closely to see this Woodcock. It blends in with it's surroundings so well, as to be invisible. It is; one might say; an obese version of it's relative the Sandpiper. It's dead-leaf pattern protects it from view, especially in the fall hunting season. It has a long bill, large eyes and short wings. It is found in wet thickets, wet woods and swamps. It may be seen flying over partially open fields and pastures. It lives on insects and worms. The voice is a beezp; similar to a Night Hawk. It's wings produce a chippering trill during assent and warble on descent.
