The Bufflehead is a small migratory diving duck; that spends time here in the Spring and Fall. According to the Canadian Web Site; Hinterland Who's Who; these are quote " one of the scarcest ducks in North America " They nest in trees; usually an abandoned Flickers hole. Buffleheads may keep the same mate for several years and use the same nest site every year. They are rather people shy and almost always on the move. These ducks store about 115 grams of fat to energize them for their long flight north, and the GTA is a stop over location to re-fuel. They can be found in High Park Pond and along the waterfront in the spring and fall.
