The Red-tail Hawk frequents the Rouge and may be seen flying along the banks of the Finch Meander. Its cry is familiar to all. A large bird, it has red-tail markings that give it, the name. It retreats to the warmer climates during the cold winter.
The Red-shouldered Hawk may also be seen in the Rouge, but is rare in these parts. It has red markings on its wings and upper body area. The birds feed upon rodents, nest in trees and will defend against all visitors. They are beneficial to us.
