Viceroy/Monarch Butterflies ..... Harvey Kirsch

The Viceroy is on the left, the Monarch on the right. If you look at the lower wings of the Viceroy Butterfly you can make out the horizontal line that does not appear on the Monarch. The Viceroy tends to be a smaller butterfly but not always. It was suggested to me that Monarchs are some what rare in our area; but that has not been my experience. I see more Monarchs closer to Lake Ontario and fewer Viceroys.
