There are many more species of moths than butterflies. We do not see them, because most fly a night. However some do fly during the day. The way to tell a moth from a butterfly is that moths rest with their wings laid out flat and covering their bodies. Butterflies rest with their wings erect and closed. Moths tend to be dull in colour, although there are some very colorful examples. They are members of the Family Lepidoptera ..... Thank you Carolyn King ...
