The Viceroy Butterfly mimics the Monarch in every way including taste. This one is feeding on an Oxeye Daisy. You can just make out the horizontal line on the left lower wing. The colour may vary from orange to mahogany depending on location. The Viceroy is a smaller butterfly than the Monarch. I saw fewer Viceroys this year ( 2005 )for some reason.

The Monarch and Viceroy Butterflies look almost exactly the same. The difference is the horizontal line across the back of the lower wings. The Viceroy will be found feeding on different plants as well.
