The Twelve-spotted Skimmer is present in most of North America, spring thru late summer. This is a male. Like our previous Skimmers; the mature males develop a white waxy layer on their abdomen and in addition milky white areas on the wings between the brown markings.

The females do not develop the white markings. These Skimmers are also known as Ten-spotted Skimmers for the ten white areas on the wings. They are found on low plants in open areas and near the water.
