I am reasonably sure this is a Common Green Darner. I have been trying to get acceptable photographs for some time. I prefer images of insects perched on single stems or branches rather than the backgrounds here. It has been interesting to watch them flying and darting around or hovering. Some larger dragonflies can achieve speeds of 35 mph. They are the Mosquitoe Squad. They seem interested in this observer, but they have not fully co-operated in front of my lens like the Skimmers or the smaller Meadowhawk's do.
