The Mallow Family consists of leafy herbs which display white, pink or purple flowers. They may bloom April thru October, and may be found in woods, thickets and meadows. " They are edible .The little round seed pods are referred to a "cheeses". They produce a gelatinous juice when cooked that was the source of the original marshmallows. Added to a stew they give it a gumbo quality, not unlike okra does. ( Thank You To Crys Cassano of Michigan for the identification of this flower)
