Solomon's Seal is a member of the Lily Family. It is found in moist woods and thickets, blooming May thru June. It's flowers are greenish white, bell shaped, and usually are hidden by the leaves. It fruit consists of blue-black berries, which are just visible in the above photograph.

The name come from the fact the root stalk is jointed and its leaf stalk breaks away leaving a distinct scar thought to resemble the Great Seal of King Solomon. Natives used the root stalk; which contains a lot of starch; as dietary food source.
