Iris versicolor is a member of the Iris Family and blooms from May through August. They may be found in swamps, marshes and wet shores of rivers. I have seen it along the Rouge, at the Twin Rivers sites. The underground portion of the stem is poisonous, but was dried and used as a cathartic or laxative, by the First Nations Peoples and Early Colonists.

Common Tansy .....( Tanacetum vulgare ) blooms from July to September. A member of the Sunflower Family. The leaves and stem contain an oil that is toxic to animals and people; but it's fresh young leaves and flowers can be used as a substitute for sage.
