American Toads have dry warty skin, through which they can absorb moisture. Contrary to popular belief, you do not get worts on your hands if you handle a Toad. It's true though; Never Kiss a Toad; their skin excretes a white fluid which is very toxic, and causes an intense burning if contacted with the eyes or mouth. They may be found in the in damp places, hiding under logs, in grass,on paths, and in the spring they are found in ponds and can be heard calling for mates.
