Red Admiral Butterfly ..... ( Vanessa atalanta )
Red Admiral Butterfly
The Red Admiral Butterfly is found in southern Canada, and identified by the red-orange bar across the front wings and red-orange border on the hind wing.. They may winter here if mild, and migrate in the spring. It is found in openings in river woods, wooded swamps and butterfly friendly gardens. They feed on nectar from many flower species, and sap flows. They will land on your shoulder or arm; as this one did; or may be observed dancing with Painted Lady Butterflies in the evening light.
