Cost Effective For Canada's Kyoto Commitment
Indian Pipe at first glance looks like a fungi, but is not. This ghost like plant has no colour and is translucent. It is known as a saprophyte because it lives totally off fungus and needs no sunlight. It's scientific name means Once-turned because the flower turns upward once it produces seeds. The plant turns black when touched or picked and cannot be transplanted. It is found throughout North America, June thru November.
